Theral Mackey

With more than 46 years of experience in accounting and administration, Theral Mackey brings a wealth of knowledge and steady leadership to his role as Church Administrator at First United Methodist Church of Brunswick.

Theral earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration from Kennesaw State University. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1977 and spent over seven years in local accounting firms in Dalton, Georgia. His career then led him into the carpet and rug industry, where he served for 27 years as Controller and Director of Accounting, followed by 12 years as Comptroller for the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind in St. Augustine, Florida.

Throughout his career, Theral has also been deeply involved in civic and nonprofit work. He served as Secretary, Vice President, and President of the Dalton Kiwanis Club—as well as Lt. Governor of Georgia District 11—and was a board member of the John W. Looper, Jr. Speech and Hearing Clinic in Dalton. He also volunteered as a guardian ad litem for the Whitfield County Juvenile Court and worked on the Allocations Committee of the Northwest Georgia United Way.

Faith has always been central to Theral’s life. He has served in many roles across the churches he’s attended—Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, deacon, elder, and administrative board member. His favorite scripture passages include Psalm 23 and Psalm 122:1 (KJV):

“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.”

Theral and his wife of 37 years, Helen, have been members of FUMC Brunswick for four years. They enjoy volunteering both at the church and with the Southeast Georgia Health System’s Brunswick Hospital. At home, they share life with their energetic Labrador, Charlie Brown.
